What we collect

When you create an account we store your email address and usage data — enhances run today, Guided conversations this month, subscription status, and a 90-day rolling history of your enhancements (input prompt, enhanced output, model, timestamp). History entries auto-delete after 90 days.

Where prompts go

When you enhance a prompt — whether through the web app at refrase.cc/enhance, the browser extension, the public demo, or our API — your prompt is sent to a Refrase backend Lambda that calls Claude Haiku 4.5 on AWS Bedrock with your prompt plus the target model's public documentation as context. The enhanced prompt is returned to you and stored in your enhancement history (90-day TTL). The prompt is not used to train any model and is not shared with third parties beyond AWS Bedrock for the inference call.

Earlier versions of Refrase shipped a deterministic adapter that ran entirely in your browser — that is no longer the case. The v0.3 enhancer is an LLM call, which is what made the empirical quality gains possible (see /research).

Browser extension

The Refrase browser extension calls the same Refrase API that powers the web app. When you sign in, the extension stores authentication tokens in browser local storage; tokens are used only to authenticate with the Refrase API and are never shared with third parties.

The extension requests host permissions for AI chat sites (chatgpt.com, claude.ai, gemini.google.com, chat.mistral.ai, poe.com, huggingface.co/chat) so it can detect which model you're prompting and offer in-place enhancement. Selected text and the active page's URL are sent only when you explicitly trigger an enhancement (right-click menu, keyboard shortcut, or floating button); the extension does not collect or transmit anything from those sites otherwise.

Guided mode

Guided conversations are sent to the Refrase API for AI processing. Conversation turns are stored temporarily in DynamoDB with a 1-hour TTL so the multi-turn flow can resume if your connection drops. After the session ends and the TTL expires the session record is deleted; the final enhanced prompt is stored in your history (90-day TTL) like any Quick mode result.

Public demo

The public demo at refrase.cc (3 enhancements per IP per day, no sign-in required) sends prompts to the same enhancer. Demo prompts are not attached to any user record and are not stored after the response is returned. We track only the per-IP rate limit counter via Upstash Redis.

Third-party services

We use Amazon Web Services (Cognito for authentication, DynamoDB for data storage, Bedrock for AI processing, Lambda for backend compute), Stripe for payments, and Upstash Redis for rate limiting. Each service has its own privacy policy. No prompt content is shared with third parties beyond what AWS Bedrock receives for the inference call.

Data deletion

History entries auto-delete after 90 days. To delete your entire account and all associated data immediately, email privacy@refrase.cc.
